The winter is flying by and it?s time to start thinking about this year?s Hope on the Slopes event at Stevens Pass. The goal of this event is to raise money for the American Cancer Society. You may remember hearing it called ?Vertical Challenge? last year.
The event starts at 10am on Saturday, March 8 and runs for 24 hours through 10am on Sunday, March 9. Here is the pitch from their website:
American Cancer Society
Hope on the Slopes Event
Imagine ...
A world without cancer.
Set your sights high and make every run count this season. This winter, the American Cancer Society challenges you to extend beyond your vertical limits to fund the fight against cancer. Every time you hit the slopes with Hope on the Slopes, you will raise valuable funds to support American Cancer Society-funded research, education, advocacy, and patient service programs.
For the first time in history, cancer incidence rates are on a decline.
The Competition
Strap on your board, click on your skis, grab your favorite beanie and head to the mountain with your friends and family in tow. With American Cancer Society Hope on the Slopes, there are three ways you can join the fight against cancer this winter.
? Compete as an individual
? Form a team (5-15 people) to compete
? Sponsor an event participant
Teams and individuals will have a chance to ski/board for 24 hours to ski the most vertical feet. Teams and individuals will also compete to raise the most funds that will help eliminate cancer. Please click on the Fundraising Ideas link on the left for helpful tips. Awards will be given to the teams and individuals who ski the most vertical feet and raise the most funds! With your help, we will continue to get closer to a cure.
You don?t have to stay all night and the amount of funds you raise is not determined by the number of vertical feet that you ski. All fundraising is done in one-time donations before the event. Most people don?t stay through the night, but those who do have a great time. How much you participate in the actual skiing event is up to you. The point of this is to raise money for ACS beforehand. You could be on our team and just ski a relatively normal day at Stevens (the only difference being that you need to stop and pick up the RFID tag.)
Last year the individual entry fee was $50 (partially tax deductible) and I?m guessing this year will be similar. In addition to this, you?ll need to buy a one day lift ticket (it?s good for 24 hours if you?re part of the event.)
Or, there is a team entry option (with fee). If anyone interested in organizing a team, please shoot me a note to be added as an assistant organizer.
